In the dark about whistling

PRECIS: I whistle. Frequently. And no one else seems to. Why?

I often whistle to myself as I walk. It's a half-unconscious act that gets the full glaring spotlight of consciousness turned on it whenever I pass another person. Whistling apparently died out with "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs". It just isn't a very "aughts" thing to do. Why is that? Is it too unabashedly cheery for our sophisticated post-postmodern tastes? If I started whistling in an ironic, self-parodying way, would it catch on? Is it just too Ned Flanders for most folks?

Iss "as usual, the essential question here is, am I the only one who does this?" achar
