I may have gotten the middle word gramatically incorrect. So sue me. It's been one hell of a long week for me.

Got to sit in on the preview of Pirates 2. Here's my thoughts, without spoilers.

Thank you God, that there isn't as much QUotable Jack Sparrow this time through. THat's what drove me insane about the first one. Everyone in the WORLD was going around quoting Jack Sparrow, and I wanted to kill them all. Hopefully, that won't happen this time.

Music is exactly the same. Percussion and strings. Nothing wrong with that- it just means I don't have to buy the soundtrack to this one.

There are some rather funny moments, though not as many as the first one. I'm thinking specifically of the Jack-Ke-Bob, and his line "Oh Bugger," as he hangs by one foot. You wouldn't think it could be that funny, but it is.

Interesting new characters. Bootstrap makes an appearance (with a somewhat major role) and Davey Jones himself has the most... what's a good word... interesting... crew. Jones himself is pretty interesting, at least to look at.

Old characters show up as well. Some of them in quite surprising ways. I'm thinking specifically of the final ten seconds of the movie.

Old characters (specifically lead characters)... well... things go really really REALLY bad for one of them.

The camera work is pretty cool. There's a scene where a three way swordfight is going on, and it's taking place on a waterwheel that's rolling through a forest. All three combatants at one point end up INSIDE the water wheel, and the camera turns with them. It was the coolest thing I think I've ever seen in a movie. Yes, I'm that lame.

All in all, I enjoyed it quite a lot. Having slept through 2/3 of the first one, and never really having seen it, I still managed to enjoy it. You don't have to know really anything about the first movie except who the major characters were, and the history of the Black Pearl, which you can get from the most amateur cinephile.

E10.
