I would be closer to this position myself if it weren't for a.) The fact that I totally agree with Stephen's post, and b.) the fact that so many immigrants (or perhaps it's just the ones around here) seem so dang spiteful of the US and Americans in general. Many of them don't WANT to be Americans. They want to be Mexicans that work in America.

Prime example: There was a rally/demonstration a couple of weeks ago on Fresno State's campus. I didn't stay to listen long, finding the crowds more a nuisance in getting to class than anything else, but I did hear one speaker ranting about how her children had to say the Pledge of Allegiance in schools. Golly, imagine having to say the Pledge of Allegiance in American schools!

This is why people who speak both Spanish and English, but refuse to teach the latter to their children, bother me. Look, if you're going to live here, you need to treat it with a little respect. Especially if you're going to demand the same back.
