There was a brief discussion on here recently about wearing helmets while riding horses, bicycles, and such. So why don't we wear them in cars? In some accidents, a simple bike helmet would have made the difference between a head injury and no head injury.

I watched an SUV rolling over and over on a police video on tonight's news. The driver will be OK, but she had cuts in the top of her head that would have been prevented by a helmet.

Yes, I know, a helmet would mess up your hair and you would arrive at work looking like you just blew in from Kansas. But we are talking safety, not style. And you have to admit that Jeff Gordon looks reasonably presentable when he steps out of a winning race car and pulls off his helmet.

It took about 40 years to get more than 50% of drivers into safety belts. Maybe we better start now on helmets. Otherwise, we will continue driving with a cannon pointed at our face. Helmets won't bloody your nose or burst your eardrums. I'm not real sure about air bags.

P.S.What makes me want to start sentences with conjunctions? I know better.
