Seriously? I suppose it depends on the school, and it definitely depends on where you're socializing, but I found the difference to be night and day.

Dorm life was about the same as high school. So I didn't really do anything at all with the people there. I even skipped the periodic "mandatory" floor meetings.

But within my major, or in the student groups I was a part of, and so on, there were actually viable communities.

I could never figure out why there was social maturity in some places and not in others in basically the same place.
