You are correct that a loser gets 400 gold and (300 + winner's medical) points.

At this stage of the game, it doesn't seem very useful to calculate the total gold amassed by any particular player. By now, they will all have spent most or all of it on weapons and armour, and you can just look at what they're packing.

Anyway, the only real challenge is calculating the total gold won by a player with a mix of wins and losses. You can always reenact their winning battles (or losing ones, if there are fewer) and do the math.
