Less than 700, actually. As discussed in an earlier thread, you earned 7*(500 max) gold, and he earned a minimum of 7*400. A little high-school math will tell you that the difference between those two amounts is 7*(100 max) = 700 max. Add 100 for the second round of elimination.

Anyway, gold isn't everything. You have to consider your opponent's looks, personality and sense of humour too.
