Most likely because it was released earlier this year. There was lots of talk about how good the movie was during the summer months, but the Academy has that short term/long term memory problem. They're preoccupied with good films that were only shown in five cities during the last week of the year.

No mention of Signs from anyone? Was that movie left off of everyone's list because (a) Stephen (and several others) hated hated hated the ending and (b) it basically is a science fiction movie and the Academy hates science fiction movies almost as much as they hate comedies?
