After reading wintermute's latest journal entry from Thailand, where he apparently went to King Bhumibol's 75th birthday party, I looked around the web for information about this. There was a lot.

A couple of days ago I didn't even know Thailand *had* a king. Now I know all about him, including that he was born in Massachusetts, plays jazz clarinet, and made an impassioned speech to the Thai people during the festivities in which he urged them to adopt more stray dogs.

Anti-monarchist though I am, I think the rest of the world can learn a lot from this.
