Yup. Thailand was an absolute monarchy until the 1930s, when an uprising took place. The rebel leaders, Pridi and Pibulsonggram, allowed the king to remain in power, but had him create a constitution. After this, Thailand alternated between a constitutional monarchy and a military dictatorship several times. It's a constitutional monarchy now.

I found all this out two years ago when I did a report on Thailand. The source for this information was the Political Handbook of the World.
