Hmmm... odd. Must have been lucky.

Really it wasn't too bad. It was all about picking my battles. (Obviously on level 10 I wasn't going to face 6 groups of 9 ice dragons. So I would run when needed.)

There are a lot, but I didn't really find that many items useful. I though I might use wands, but once I could take out a monster group through a melee attack, why bother? (The only item that was REALLY useful was Death's Key (cause it hits ALL monsters).... but it's only got one use in battle... now had it been a multiple use...)

So I carried keys, and at Perrin I bought Bright Stones, & scrolls of Hovering & Orientation. That was it. (Though I have to admit that I found a teleport stone on level 10 that I used after facing Murkon. Really just a time saver.)

I tried using a couple healing items through the game, but they really didn't do much for me. I was going to die pretty much every time out anyway, so after a while I figured what's the point of picking up 30 HP from a healing item before I die?

Just remember to try and max out in one of your resistances. Makes picking which monsters you kill first easier.
