Some races start out with higher heat resistance than others. It's possible your Assassin happens to be from one of the lower ones. As far as I know, he should be picking up that stat roughly as quickly as everyone else, though it's possible that Vitality will help. I think that's the sort of stat that you only get very slowly anyway, and perhaps your Assassin is just unlucky.
There is a shield that works better for fire than the Anti-Heat Shield, but it's tough to find. Happy swimming.
You can always FedEx the cookie, you know. If you find my answer particularly useful, I'll be expecting a +2 Cookie of Chocolacy, which gives you +5 Milk Resistance.
