Well, we've made a lot of stuff throughout all of history. I reckon *somebody* has to own it. :-)

As for why coins are popular, well, there were generous tons of them created, and they tend to be made out of durable material. So the chances are pretty good that a fair number of ancient coins are still in existence and in recognisible shape. And, as I say, somebody has to own them.
