I'd like to add a #5 here, because there's one thing about MR that a lot of new players don't immediately grasp:
5) Speed=survival. It's tempting to ignore this little stat and pile heavy equipment on your front-row fighters, I know. In many games, after all, even the bulkiest armor has no affect on movement. I'd suggest staying away from 'heavy' and 'iron' equipment in MR, though. The protection these offer you doesn't make up for the drop in speed. Speed eventually multiplies the power of your fighters, and cannot be done without. Likewise, items that boost speed are often worth having in spite of their weakness compared to regular equipment.
