Several years back, we (myself and my family, plus several other family friends) were vacationing on the coast of North Carolina when Hurricane Bertha decided to come for a visit. We waited to leave until they made us evacuate.

The night before we left was one of the scariest nights I've ever spent. I was alone in a room in the beach house we'd rented, a room with lots of windows and high ceilings. The wind was just thundering around the house and the rain hitting the windows was incredibly loud. It sounded like the house was going to fall apart any minute. As I recall, I didn't sleep very much at all that night.
