Anybody know about how long (American) bacon keeps in a refrigerator? I just cooked the last four strips of bacon in a package that had been lying around in the refrigerator for, I don't know, maybe four weeks. The last time I cooked some from that package was around the 24-25th of August, when Brunnen-G was visiting. It was fine then. But when I cooked the last four strips just now, the smell was unmistakable: wet dog.

Leen came up the stairs, and I said, "Why does this smell like wet dog?" and she laughed, because she was about to ask the exact same question in the exact same words.

I was brave enough to taste it, and it was fine. But I had too many visions of food poisoning to feel right eating it all.
