Japanese is obscure? I'd like to learn Japanese, too, but I don't think it is obscure. Classes offered at local high schools and colleges, and plenty of acquaintances with whom I could "practice", if I really wanted to make myself do something about it. But I guess that depends on where you live.

I don't really expect to convince anyone of anything in any kind of debate, whether live or in print, nevermind a newsgroup or a message forum like this, which is why I generally lurk for ages and ages, and then post on whim on a random day. Today's my random day.
