Have you been casting light spells and fully exploring every level? You won't have too much trouble finding the first town after Perinn. Getting there, on the other hand, is part of the fun.

Level 3 is a horrible place to get lost if you have no light and no magic. I hate getting teleported there. Fortunately, my equipment-free party is already roaming around level 5.
