For those budding authors who are simply too prolific for their own good... it's the Urban Drift Challenge.

Here is a quote from the creator of the event, to pique da interest of any o' dem foos out 'dere:

__________________________________________

"Once upon a time, on another messageboard that I ran, I came up with the idea of "pulling a moorcock"; that is, I sat down and decided that I had three days to write a novel.

Throughout that weekend, I posted updates of the novel-in-progress on the forum, and soon a half-dozen others were making the same attempt. It was fun. It was exhilarating. It was also, in retrospect, very fun to watch.

That time, six years ago, I failed.

This weekend, I will succeed.

I'd like you to join me, therefore, in the first annual urban drift Novel(la) in a Weekend challenge, if you dare. It will run from (your) Friday afternoon until Monday morning (I'm here on CST). The rules are simple: dedicate the entire weekend to churning out a Moorcock-esque short novel. Post excerpts of your progress on the forum. Or, just hang out and encourage the participants.

It can be stressful. It can lead to coffee-overdose. But it can also be incredibly liberating and rewarding.

So why not try?"
