I don't need an orc to make excuses for Lucas. Of course those are all plausible and could have been explained at some point.

Or the director could have just decided to put a crazy Mario Bros. scene in at the last minute and thought it would be cool to make an all time favorite character jet about.

Maybe he used up all his fuel in that flight and couldn't afford to fill up again.

Basically, it was meaningless and confusing to introduce something like that.

And why don't the Jedi use their blazing super speed more often? And why...?
