> DO NOT JUMP before accessing the secret area. I think - although I'm not certain - that if you jump and then try to finish the recipe and access the area, the game won't let you. Not sure, but it's best to get it done before the big jump.

I've read the recipe and dropped in the first seven items. I've gone back in time and tried to straighten out the item I wrenched askew, but had no luck. Guess that would be too obvious of a solution.....
