Being on welfare is far from being poor. In 1995, a single mother with two children could collect more from welfare benefits than she could make working a $9/hour job in 28 states. All the other states still provided welfare benefits that worked out to more than the $5.15 minimum wage.

If they come in legally then we really don't have to worry about them paying taxes; it will be much harder for them to get around it. If they commit a crime in order to come into this country, how is it *our* failure that they're undocumented and therefore do not pay taxes?

I really don't think building a wall is the answer; I don't know what is. But I have a hard time feeling sympathy for people whose very *first* act in this country was illegal who then expect to be treated as though they deserve the same consideration as citizens and legal immigrants.
