Tonights news seems to indicate that Congress wants to secure our borders. This means troops and fences and maybe even Berlin-type walls. They don't mention the Canadian border, but if they just build it along the Mexican border, we are going to look bad. We are going to be called racists and worse.

One arguement for this wall is that terrorists might slip in. But would a terrorist try to across a border that is being watched night and day, when there is the Canadian border that is still fairly open?

I don't think the Canadians have anything to worry about. They won't see any walls. It might take a little longer to cross, but they will be able to move freely in and out of the U.S., as always.

When I cross into Mexico or Canada, I always have a valid passport in hand, but terrorists can produce fake passports if they need them. Building walls won't stop a determined terrorist.

Another arguement is that Mexicans come over here to live on welfare. This is not true. They can be poor at home. They leave their families to earn more money. Yes, I think they should pay taxes. If they don't, that is our failure, not theirs.
