Do you mind if I stop you right here for a moment? I'm wondering...the director gave you the answer...was it still not clear what he meant? Did you have an additional question? Because it appears that the director's response was meant to forestall your "state of mind explanation"--the thing that people do when they want you to know how it was they came to ask the question/make the mistake/were feeling at the moment. Know what I mean?

I really notice this because I have a person in my life who does this constantly, *to distraction*, to the point of repeating the whole conversation we just had, just as an explanation of how they misunderstood that I said "home" when I really said "phone".

Bottom line, it didn't matter what you thought.
You got your answer. I don't mean this unkindly, just a point of view from the other side, from someone who is genuinely curious as to why people feel the need to explain it all (if indeed that's what you were doing).

Now if that was a preliminary remark to further questions, and not an explanation--well, I guess you can't rely that someone is willing to listen through it all to get to the point. I could especially see this in an audition situation where the director is trying to get through a lot in a short time.
(No excuse, however, for the condescending attitude--that was unneccessary).

Anyway, yay for Rifty! for trying out and even getting out of your comfort zone (dance, baby)
