.NET Framework

Hello!

I haven't really posted a lengthy message here before, but I've been reading the board for quite a while. I notice some of you are technical types, and I have a technical-type question. If this is not appropriate material for this message board, I appologize.

I wrote a text game (I thanked RinkWorks for inspiring the game's creation in the credits.) for Windows last year. I used Visual Studio .NET 2006 to edit and compile it. I also made an installer using the Wizard included in the program. It worked fine on the computers I tested it on, which were all fully updated, so I gave it to all of my friends.

This week, I was bored at work and was working on a story I have on a jump drive. I noticed that the game was also stored on the jump drive, so I decided to play it. It didn't work because "the .NET framework is not installed." Then, I downloaded and installed the .NET framework version 2.0. Then, the game did not work because "this program requires the .NET framework vs. 1.*something*."

Does anyone know what this means? Is my version of Visual Studio now useless, or can I update my home computer and recompile, and the program will work on fully-updated computers? I'm really worried because a) Visual Studio is expensive now that I am no longer a student, and I would hate to have to buy the latest version and b) I'm afraid my lovely game is obsolete already!
