[snip] - it's not a bad thing to become organised and communicate more clearly with superiors - in practice it goes out of skew the instant legislation gets enacted allowing the labour organisation to paralyse a company on a whim.
I had never thought of the communication aspect before. I know that a lot of companies are lousy at communicating. Walmart, where I worked for four years, has something called the open-door policy, which allows any associate to speak directly to the store manager, or even go higher up. One time I emailed the home office about a point of procedure that had not been made clear by my management, and in a few days, I got a call that explained the procedure. However, I think you're somewhat mistaken about the legal aspect of strikes. As far as I know, strikes are usually considered to be a civil matter, although in actual practice, striking has devolved into a form of extortion. As the article points out, the UAW is seemingly prepared to destroy GM in order to get its own way.
