Also, hey- you're saying nobody picks up coins off the ground? I pick up coins. Heads or tails, regardless of value. I even pick up things that look like coins.

One redeeming feature I can think of- coins are reminiscient of gold doubloons and pieces of eight and the like. And as we all know, there is nothing more awesome than pirate treasure. I LIKE coins. I LIKE heavy pockets from carrying around 20 bucks in change.

But really, I have to agree with Eric Sleator on most points.
