Everytime I think about moving, I remember how good it was back in the old days when a lot of people lived in "house trailers." They weren't called mobile homes, or campers or any thing like that. Most house trailers were 20 to 40 feet long and all were eight feet wide. The first 10 ft. wide trailers came out about 1955 and as far as I am concerned the house trailer era was all but over.

We lived in one that was 8 X 35 when I was in college and I pulled it with a 1953 Packard. To move, you just disconnected the water, lights and sewer, took the clothes out of he closet and put them on the bed, taped the sliding doors open, removed the blocks, and dropped the hitch on the ball. Most of that was done the evening before moving. Once you got where you were going, it took about half-a-day to get everything back to normal. The big job was blocking it up and getting it level.

If I moved now, after more than 30 years in the same house, I'd have to rent a fleet of trailer trucks or a freight train. It would take about three or four trips with the pickup and trailer just to move the scooters and scooter parts. I would also have to move the pop-up camper, two riding lawn mowers, 24 bicycles, a tiller, an outboard motor, and a boat trailer (but no boat!). Only then could I start looking at the stuff inside the house.

I guess I could sell or give away most of the bicycles, the boat trailer, and the older lawn mower, but it's still a lot of stuff.

I think I'll stay put.
Howard
