Some of us still do. I almost never fly in anything but a suit. (The exception is inter-island hops in Hawaii.) I find that you get better service if well dressed. Upgrades are more likely if you don't look trashy. This also applies when checking into a hotel.

Even going through security is easier in a suit. I always have my coat off and all metal objects in my hand before I get to the head of the line. This tells them that I have flown a lot. With a dark red tie and a little gray hair, they don't know if I'm somebody important, or just an old left-over school teacher. Sometimes I am even treated with respect.
