Many moons ago, there was a thread on here about people who named their vehicles. In recent years we have been calling our two vehicles, "the car," and "the truck." But it hasn't always been that way. My first bicycle was named "Elmer" and even my friends and family called it that. It was almost a person, and was in fact named for my Uncle Jim whose middle name was Elmer. I named my green Vespa "Dino" after Dean Martin who died the week that I bought it. Both Martin and the Vespa were of Italian blood.

I named some other scooters but never called them by those names. That is until I bought the orange Vespa. It is a much larger scooter than the green one, and since it is orange, it has become "Big Orange." Now I am not a football fan, but those who are may recognize that East Tennessee is Big Orange Country, home of the University of Tennessee and the Tennesssee Vols. Their colors are orange and white. You know that immediately when you come into the area and notice orange and white barrels dotting all major interstates and other highways.

So if you live in Big Orange Country and have a scooter of the right color, it would seem unpatriotic to call it by any other name.

We also had a name for the 1971 Chevy wagon and the 1974 Ford Maverick that we owned at one time. We called them both, "that piece of junk."
Both of our Subarus (which are now gone to that big parking lot in the sky) were referred to as "The Sube," with a long u.

Now we are about to have a 1956 Volkswagen bug restored, and I can't wait to hear what name it acquires. "The Money Pit" comes to mind.
