Claims that America is arrogant for using "America" and "Americans" are rather short sighted, in my opinion. While there are many countries that occupy the South and North American continents, none of them use the word America in their name. Yes, it is the United States *of* America, so United States seems more appropriate if it is shortened. Just referring to me as a U.S. citizen is inconsistent with the rest of the world, too. For me, American makes sense.

What does the song "America the Beautiful" make you think of? The continent(s) or the U.S.?
