I agree. It is dumb. But they're entitled to their own... weirdness... as long as it doesn't interfere with the church services. What irritates me is that they're passing this off as art. It used to be that art was, by nature, beautiful (which does depend on how you perceive it, but perception is still based on fundamental principles involving all sorts of math and things that I don't have a clue about--this was in the Reader's Digest--I'll get to the point now). Its very definition involved beauty. Now, it seems, nothing qualifies as art unless it "makes a statement". Well, okay. Make your statement, but don't call it art. Using the Ferrari analogy, I can buy an elephant and call it a Ferrari, but that doesn't make it a Ferrari. A Ferrari is, by definition, a car that drives fast and makes me drool. Elephants don't have quite the same effect. And they're not cars that drive fast. So don't get mad at me when I won't call your elephant a Ferrari. Anyway. I've had lots of coffee today, and I did an entire three-week project in about two hours, so I'm a little crazy right now. This is one of my major hang-ups, and once I get going... Yes, I'm done... you can go to sleep now.
