Is losing the human race possible?

I have a music degree. I enjoy philosophy. The convergence of music and philosophy frightens me more almost every time i hear the latest.

When a couple guys figured out how to tune a grain silo for use as a musical instrument a couple years ago, i thought, "Nifty. That seems kind of fun. Wonder what it sounds like."

When i heard in the fall about some German composer/conductor (with WAY too much time on his hands, apparently) who has expanded a recording of Beethoven's ninth symphony so that it's 24 hours long, i thought, "My, what a neat sound experiment. I'd like to hear clips from that." I heard clips from that. It sounds like poop.
I also heard the guy titling it and acting as if it's a new composition. Doing something more slowly DOES NOT MAKE SOMETHING DIFFERENT, it just makes the old thing less fast. If i buy a Ferrari and drive it 15 mph on the freeway, it doesn't mean i've made it into something other than a sportscar; it does mean i probably wasted my money buying a Ferrari instead of a Kia, but not much else.

Now a friend gave me the following link. I'd like to hear other points of view on this, since i think it's an EXTREMELY DUMB IDEA with a very slim chance of possible completion.

Thank you for your time.
