That weird thing there? It's called a lift...

This is a general post about a few observations I've made over the last few days. About people's behaviour in lifts, or elevators if that's what you call them.

The first thing happened on Monday at work. I got into the lift lobby and called the lift, the guy just behind me also preesed the button which called the lift. Hmm, someone's in a hurry, thought I. The lift came, the doors opened and we got in. I was next to the floor buttons so I pressed for the third floor. I could see this other guy in the mirrored walls of the lift as he watched me press #3. He waited until I moved and then leaned over and pressed three again. By this time the doors had closed and the lift was moving. Pressing it again wasn't going to make it move any faster. He even lingered on it, making absolutely sure that that button knew it had been pressed.

The second thing happened Wednesday. I was descending to the ground floor about 1pm to go get some lunch. Naturally, as the lift slowed I moved to the door to be ready to exit, as I was the only one in it. The door opened and a gaggle of women immediately outside moved towards me, chatting away and taking not the blindest bit of notice of me until the one in front nearly walked into me. She then looked up at me with an expression of utmost surprise that anyone could have the temerity to be inside waiting to get out of a lift she was waiting to get into.

The last one happened today. Again, I was going down for lunch and some guy was in it when I got in on the third. He seemed ready to get out when I got in, but halted when he saw it was the third. A lot of people wanted lunch around then and the lift stopped at second and third before getting to ground. Each time the guy was ready to jump out as soon as the door opened. He was standing opposite the clearly visible LED floor indicator the entire time.

Is it me or people just not that clued up about how lifts work and how to use them?

The weirdest thing that happened to me this week was cutting my finger quite badly. On my toenail.
