Because Trek is just communist propaganda in which emotions (and particular selfishness) are BAD BAD BAD. The logical, selfless Vulcans are always willing to sacrifice themselves for the greater good of society and as such are role models.

Ever notice that the Ferrengi are the scum of the universe? Why? Because they like money and material goods and don't all work for the glory of the Federation...
