I think one of the differences between using the same card as "debit" vs. "credit" is that banks tend to limit the amount of debit transactions you can make per month without a fee, but they don't do the same thing for credit transactions. At least, that's the way my credit union does it, which is why I never use mine as a debit unless I'm actually withdrawing money from an ATM.
