Well, I didn't experience this one. I just lived the aftermath.

I was voluntering at a dorm (AKA, a school with mats in the classrooms) for the Canadian Ski Marathon. One night, the ham radio technicians sent an emissary out to write the updated weather broadcast on a big chalkboard we had near information / admission.

I don't remember the windspeed, but then, I'd just quickly checked air temperature and precipitations. (Snow temperature was aquired by the complex method of sticking a thermometer in the snow near the door).

I had a night shift that night. The doors were all locked, but we feared that wasn't enough. The ham antenna outdoor almost broke, we heard. A lot of tents on the actual run went down, sponsor signs were a thing of the past, and branches were all over the trails.

So my team had to find a way to entertain 500 grumpy cross country skiers for the day.

And no, they didn't change out of their tights.

I've also seen cold enough for the school administration to get on the PA and tell us to wear gloves, that the nurse had hot pads, and to smoke between the door - This was in high school. (We're talking -50C with the wind in the morning)

And I'm not mentionning the icestorm of 1998.

My gf was stuck at Ottawa Int'l because of the weather in Chicago, once...
