I can give you a little info on Los Angeles. I am assuming that you are applying to UCLA, since that's the only university I know about.

I would think they deliver until at least 10, probably longer for big chains like Dominoes. Weekends are most likely open until midnight, if not later.

> "What time is last call"
Bars usually close at 2 am, but lots of places will start tossing people out at 1:30. (unlike London where the pubs close at 11 pm!)

> "Does the city, in fact, suck?"
Since you have lived in a big city, you won't think L.A. sucks- it's mostly small-town people that have that opinion. One of my good friends just graduated from UCLA and he loved the area around the campus. It's almost like a city of it's own.
