The world's slowest woodwork project

When I first started posting to this forum, I used to spend a lot of time talking about my ongoing project of renovating the interior of my boat. It's been a long time since then, so maybe an update is due.

I just got back from my parents' house, where I have just FINISHED what has to be the lengthiest weekend project in the history of the world.

The background: four or five years ago (I don't remember exactly when), I thought it might be nice to strip the old peeling varnish off the interior door between the two cabins in my boat, and revarnish it. I figured this would take a weekend, maybe two.

I took the door off its hinges, hauled it home, shoved it on a bench in the garage, and promptly ignored it for the following year. Then I got all fired up with enthusiasm again, and decided to get all artistic instead of just slapping two coats of varnish on and calling it done. I spent at least a week looking through library books of Celtic design, decided on a very elaborate pattern of interlaced mythological creatures and knotwork, had it photocopied up to the appropriate size, transferred the design onto the door panels, and set out to make it into a low-relief carving. While this fit of creativity lasted, I managed to get all of one panel finished, and started on the second panel.

Then I shoved the door back onto a bench in the garage and ignored it for the following two years.

In the time since then, this door has travelled with me through three changes of address and has never got even one square centimetre of carving closer to being done. Recently it has been living in my parents' shed along with a lot of other boat-related junk, because I don't have room to store it in my current place.

Now I have the boat advertised for sale, which has forced me to do something about finishing this project. It took me a week just to find where I'd put the wood chisels. Wouldn't you know it, I was right all along -- once I got started, it has only taken me one weekend to finish it. That plus the one weekend I spent on it two years ago equals my original timeframe as planned. Rule.
