> One thing that I find about all horoscopes is that they all tend to be extremely vague in nature. As in, you're never going to find a horoscope that says anything specific like "On Tuesday afternoon at 3:46pm your second best friend Joe Smhoe will give you a really cool present in pink wrapping paper that will turn out to be that limited edition cheezy-doodle spraycan that you always wanted, which will make you poing happily for the next 17 minutes and 32.83 seconds afterwards" or anything like that. Instead, you're going to find stuff a lot more along the lines of "One of your friends will make you very happy this week". Obviously, with a vague statement such as that there are a multitude of things that would satisfy that requirement.

I share the above view on horoscope predictions. They tend to follow a set format, and along with the type of "predictions" you mention, will also include a statement which is good advice for anybody at any time ("Try not to let your temper get the better of you", for example).

Of the multitude of odd things people believe, I have to say astrology is the one I find most bizarre. Even if there was any way the date of your birth, and the star patterns at that time, could lead to accurate predictions of your personality and future, it blows my mind that anybody would believe the same thing is going to apply to one-twelfth of all humanity on any given day because of it.

Considering that the signs of the zodiac themselves are arbitrary designations which do not take into account more than a small number of naked-eye Northern Hemisphere stars and planets, it absolutely astonishes me that so many people believe in it.

I would also disagree with what some people have said about how horoscopes represent a potentially evil aspect of the occult. I am quite prepared to believe that there may be some things in the world which are evil aspects of the occult, but some bored subeditor sitting in a newspaper office making up three-sentence blobs of random advice doesn't seem to have much occult about it. To me, astrology is simply beneath consideration in terms of mysticism, whether good or bad.
