"Burned" works. "Cauterized" is a more specific word to refer to that procedure. I had my nose cauterized when I was a kid, and it worked for a while, but as of some years ago, both sides of my nose have gone through spells of profusive bleeding, as if I had never had them cauterized. I've come very close to going back to the hospital again, to see what they can do, because my nosebleeds can start with no provocation whatsoever -- not even a light touch or facial gesture -- and I've lost enough blood to feel like I had just donated to the Red Cross and swallowed enough to be sick. Problem is, when I stop the nosebleed, I don't really feel like going anymore.

I haven't had a nosebleed in a couple of months and no bad ones in a couple of years. But I never know when a dry winter season will set me onto a spell where I have a nosebleed every day or two for a month or two.
