I hope no government departments read this post and get any bright ideas. It seems that everything has to be legislated for or against these days, instead of being naturally regulated by the use of common sense and good manners.

This is a vicious circle. The fewer people who understand how to live harmoniously and politely around other people, the more laws need to be made to force them to do so. The more laws we make to regulate simple basic everyday good behaviour, the fewer people there are who think of it as a basic human responsibility.

It's no wonder there are more lawyers in the world than helium molecules, when we've created a society that needs to pass laws saying you're not allowed to skateboard at high speed down a crowded footpath, or crank up 9000 decibels of thrash metal on your patio at 2 a.m, or (it's only a matter of time) wander into the opposite sex's bathroom while some of them are in there using it.

This has been an old codger post 25 years too early. I thought I should get a good head start on it.
