I was a cub scout and a boy scout, though I never made it anywhere close to eagle. In fact, I think I went to all of one boy scout function ever after my Arrow of Light ceremony, since my becoming a boy scout coincided with my moving to a school an hour from my home with required extracurricular activities, so I never got home from school until seven o'clock and couldn't make it to any of them.

My only real experience of note was when I set a new record for my troop for number of pins earned by a Webelos in one year. :-}

> And i'd like to give a big "SHUT UP" to people saying that Boy Scouts are "OMFG SO GAY OMG". It's really been a positive experience for me, and i've learned a lot. A lot of people like to judge that Eagle Scout = geek, and I don't think that's true.

I don't think scouting is gay at all. What's gay about learning to survive in the wilderness and shoot things? That's pretty much the definition of manly. I mean, that's pretty much all that goes on in Rambo movies, and nobody says Rambo's gay.

> Also, did anyone do that Ordeal thing where you were sworn in not to mention what went on there to a soul, or face eternal damnation or something? That was by far the stupidest thing i've ever done. I figure we can all share the secrets here.

Err. I doubt I did "the" ordeal, but I did go through "an" ordeal as a Webelos that was pretty gay and lame. It involved older scouts in halloween costumes throwing pillowcases stuffed with leaves at us while we walked through the woods or something. It was altogether pretty pointless, and something or other that they lit on fire to scare us got out of hand, and they had to cancel the whole thing and call the fire department anyhow.
