Computer Dependency

Sometimes I wonder if we've become too
dependent on our little artificially-intelligent
friends.

I just spent nearly two hours sitting around the
office with nothing to do besides call people,
chitchat with my coworkers, and read the novel
I'm currently reading, because something
went haywire with our network. I personally
wasn't having any issues, but several people's
computers were crashing every time they tried
to move the mouse, so we all had to shut
down while our local network guru tried to
track down the problem.

The answer to my question is obvious, of
course. We gain much, much more than we
lose by using computers. This is only the
second time something like this has
happened in the fourteen-plus months that I've
worked here.

With computers, we can do significantly more
work in the same amount of time than we
could "back in the old days."

Still, it is somewhat aggravating, and kind of
scary, to realize just how dependent you've
become on a machine...
