Another thought on this subject:
In Mexico, I have been called a Gringo and an Anglo. It doesn't bother me a bit.
In Hawaii, I'm a Haole, and that doesn't bother me either. In England once, I was called a "Yank" and I think I said "I'll tell ya wut, boy, you all don't know what a real Yankee is." But I was more amused than offended. When I lived in Florida, I was proud to be called a "Cracker" because that meant they thought of me as a native Floridian. (I'm from Kentucky.) I've also been called a hill billy and lots of other things that I can't mention here. Well, I guess I could mention "tourist."
