I swore on a stack of Sears-Robuck catalogs that I wasn't going to get into reliving that mess, but I guess I just can't depend on me.

We were in Seattle, Washington, which is about as far as you can get from Tennessee without leaving the lower 48. It's also about three time zones away and we had been out there long enough to adjust to the time difference. So when we woke up there was only one tower standing there burning. We had planned to catch a plane at Seatac airport and head home that morning, and I remember telling my wife that it looked like we weren't going anywhere. We wound up driving about four days to get home. I thought about going back to read my year-old post, but I don't think I can stand it. I haven't watched much TV today either. But I've seen enough to know that, so far, the terrorist haven't observed the occasion by blowing somebody up. So far, that is. I predicted that. They aren't going to hit you when you have your guard up.

It crossed my mind the other day, that 9-11 was worse than Pearl Harbor. But I was much younger then and it was some time before it dawned on me that those ships were full of people. On 9-11, that was the first thing that hit me. There were people in there with no way out.
