I also overslept.
But I was on the east coast of the US at the time and was woken up at 10.30 after the last tower collapsed. My ex-boyfriend said, "Someones bombed the World Trade Center" I took it to mean that it was like a car bomb until he said "No, it's not there anymore and theres a huge hole in the Pentagon"
So I ran to the tv and just saw what everyone else was seeing at that point, dust.
I saw the replays and was sat in the living room quieter than I think I've ever been.
Eventually his little brother and sister were sent home from school and how do you explain to an 8 and 10 year old what is going on???? We decieded to go into the mountains for the rest of the day just to get away from the tv.
About 10 that night I managed to get an e-mail sent out to everyone to let them know I was still in South Carolina, I know my Mum and I know she'd be wondering if we'd decieded to go on any trips out of state.
