Sorry, can't offer any parallel parking advice. And I'm sorry to hear that it's part of the test in NY. Here in Florida, I was absolutely shocked (and, might I add, thrilled) that I didn't have to know that particular skill. In fact, the Florida driving test is considerably easy. I just drove a little in traffic, made a 3-point turn, drove in reverse, and parked the normal way. It was extremely simple. I have friends who tell me about how they failed the test *3 or 4 times* before getting it. Before I took the test for myself, that scared me. But now, I can't help but laugh. It was one of the easiest things I've ever done! I went in to the place, drove around for five minutes, and came back and got my license. Now I'm out on the road, putting everyone's lives into my own hands. :-)
Seriously though, I wish you the best for getting this parallel parking thing. It's too bad you have to do that for the test, but I suppose that would be an important skill to know in NYC. Considering I don't know how to do that if my life depended on it, there's one less vacation spot I have to think about.
