Wait a sec. That most recent reply brought this to my attention. Third degree burns? I am somewhat skeptical of that. Third degree burns are extremely severe, and I have a hard time believing that they could be caused by a cup of coffee, no matter HOW hot it was. See the link below for a reasonable description of burn degrees.
