Murkon's Refuge: Monsters and Experience (some spoilers)

Say you're in combat, against 30 Dragons, or something equally nasty and unlikely. You kill them. You get a lot of experience.

But, say you METAMORPH ed the dragons, or used an Evolving Figurine. The dragons turned into Puffballs. You wiped them out, no problem.

How much experience would you get? Would you get the amount due for 30 Puffballs, because that's what they were when you killed them, or would you get XP for 30 Dragons, since that's what they started out as?

I was wondering this, since when I MORPH things, when I've killed them, I don't seem to get as much XP as I would have expected from a monster group that size.

Any thoughts on this? Inside knowledge, theories, all welcome.
